Management of Working Capital attempts to examine the various aspects of working capital management in the context of selected manufacturing public enterprises. It is based on the study of nine enterprises over a period of ten years. The major issues investigated in this study are as follows:
(a) What type of working capital policy has been followed by the selected enterprises? Are they following a conservative, aggressive or moderate working capital policy? (b) What is the capability of the selected enterprises to pay their current debts? Is it really undesirable to have current and quick ratios below 2:1 and 1:1 respectively? (c) How can a discriminant analysis be useful in assessing the short-term liquidity position of enterprises? (d) How large is the size of investment in working capital and its various components? Is there any significant change taking place in the structure of working capital? (e) Is there any improvement in the utilisation of working capital by enterprises? (f) Does the demand for working capital and its various components vary proportionately or less than in proportion to changes in the volume of sales? What is the effect of the capital costs and other changes on the demand. for working capital and its various components.
