Nepal contains Lumbini, Buddha’s birthplace and over twelve hundred monasteries which include all four orders of Tibetan Buddhism. There are a number of new ones built in the later half of twentieth century around the large stupa at Bodhnath, recognized as one of the UNESCO’s World Heritage sites. Some of the monasteries also include reincarnate Lamas called Rinpoches. This book written by writer of Lonely Planet guides to India and Nepal gives information on the orders they belong to and their founders. It also describes historic and “future” Buddhas and guardian deities which you might see during your visit to the
monasteries and the courses they might offer in English on Tibetan Buddhism.
