Dr. Bishwa Nath Tiwari holds Ph.D. in Economics, Rajasthan University, India; and M.Sc. in Environmental and Resource Economics, University of London, UK. He has more than 25 years of research & teachingh experience. Working as Associate Professor at the Central Department of Economics, Tribhuvan University, he has been teaching Post-Graduate students since 1981. Apart from teaching, he works as research advisor for the Ph.D. and Post- Graduate students on contemporary development issues, and undertakes research projects. He has also been working as Nepal Coordinator for a long- term capacity building project in the field of urban water supply and sanitation, jointly implemented by four universities, two from Europe and two from Asia.
Currently, he is serving to the United Nations Development Programme for the preparation of the upcoming Nepal Human Development Report. Before this assignment, he has offered technical support to the National Planning Commission of the Government of Nepal for about four years on the development and institutionalisation of Poverty Monitoring and Analysis System at central and local levels to monitor Nepal’s Poverty Reduction Strategy/10″ plan and track the Millennium Development Goals under the UNDP supported project Poverty Monitoring in Support of PRSP.
Dr. Tiwari has wide experience in conducting research in several fields including public policy, poverty and human development for a number of government and non-government organisations. He has offered professional services to various government and non-government organisations, donors and UN agencies, and contributed to the preparation of Nepal Human Development Report 2001, and Millennium Development Goals: Nepal Country Reports 2002 and 2005. To his credit, there are more than a dozen of research articles published in books and journals within and outside country.
