This hapless pair [Sutar and Thule] is subsequently tricked into working for a local contractor, believing that he will get them
enlisted in the British Army. They find themselves as members of a roadgang that is building a road from Paro in western Bhutan over the mountains to Haa; there they work for some two years in appalling conditions on little pay before finally running away.
