“In the garbha-griha lies the beheaded Vishnu. His beheading is the sacrifice which gives rise to all. From this central chamber the temple extends upwards and outwards. From the Lord’s para aspect emanate his vyuha and avatar forms. These emanations appear upon the temple’s struts as well as in the surrounding courtyard. In this way the temple reveals the process of cosmogony. In the beginning there is only the Supreme Being. Then, like a tree he extends out. From the axis of His being, emanates the cosmos. Fully extended, the Supreme Being assumes His Vishvarupa. Sacrifice brings forth food. Food leads to growth and growth brings forth the cosmos.”
