Mountain Incantations is written between 2000 and 2005 which depicts the contemporary themes: Buddhism, love and silence, nature and wilderness, reincarnation, supernatural and the eternal quest of truth through peace, love and compassion.
Thorong-La is the pen name of Prakash Thapa Magar. He has traveled Annapurna circuit, Annapurna base camp, Sikles village and some remote parts of the country: he is influenced by the diverse culture of Nepal, and the silent reverberation of mountains and the Himalayas: the innocent and smiling highland people, Buddhist prayer flags, monasteries, chortens are what he is in steady love throughout the time.
Thorong-La did M.A. from Tribhuvan University, Prithwi Narayan Campus, Pokhara where he taught English literature for some years – he also taught in SOS Hermann Gmeiner School, Gandaki, serving the needy and destitute children – and during this time, he published his short stories: Antarrastriya Kathaharu. Later he studied in the UK, and learnt life and culture of the west to certain extent, wandering around two years amid the multicultural thinking of the west and its prevalent atmosphere of uncertainty and meaninglessness.
Mountain Incantations explores the meaning of life: love and beauty, life and culture, God and religion, supernatural and the afterlife. That everything is in the state of flux: life, death and rebirth – it is a recurrent phenomenon: this is what Buddha calls the wheel of life. However, some of his stories reveal the account of nostalgia and the beautiful landscapes of Gorkha – near Chepe and Marsyangdi, and the majestic Himalayas: Manaslu and Hiunchuli.
