The influential short-short story writer Rudra Adhikari currently lives in London with his wife Junu Dhakal Adhikari, and his two sons, Rujan and Ryan. He started writing in 1995 when he lived in Itahari, Nepal. Born in Chhatar, Okhre-1 in Tehrathum district of Nepal, Adhikari is the son of Hari Lal Adhikari and Khadga Kumari Adhikari.
The short-short stories collected here represent the contemporary Nepali society. Dristhi is possibly the first short-short story book translated into English from the Nepali language. The Nepali version of this work by author Rudra Adhikari had been published in January 2024. The English edition is intended to showcase a glimpse of Nepali literature, especially the short-short story to the global readers. In it, author Adhikari has covered a myriad of issues including the social, cultural, political, economic and environmental realities of today, and also has handled some of the most discussed contemporary issues like corruption, rights, love relationship, science, artificial intelligence, ChatGPT, LGBTQ+ and so on.
Adhikari’s style is unique. Through his short, epigrammatic deliveries, he holds the power to shock his readers and lead them to epiphany of one kind or another. In his pen, the ordinary reappears as extraordinary, and the commonplace becomes unique and creatively marvellous.
